PROJECT PLANNING
I gathered materials and texts from several
books, workshop resources and teacher's guides, adapting them to my environmental
situation. Details will follow in the next sections.
The end products of this project are two: the first is the party to celebrate
October 31st all together at school; the second is the creation of some
pages of our magazine, "Giocoland", in October dealing with the topic:
"Environment: seasonal changes".
The party requires the co-operation of all members of the teaching teams
and the participation of the other teachers. It consists of a balanced
mix of stirring and settling activities that link the development of the
listening-speaking-reading skills to a more practical field of experience:
games, VAK and community learning.
All the resources required for Hallowe'en Party are provided by the teachers
and arranged by the children of the more advanced classes.
The beginners and the six-year-old children are going to focus their will
to learn the history of the Hallowe'en tradition, the preparation of masks,
invitation cards, scorecards, posters and gadgets (practical and artistic
activities); the second-level pupils will create the written culture materials,
i.e. they will illustrate stories organized into sequences, research oral
accounts about Hallowe'en, describe and act previously studied traditions;
The third level children will learn how to manage the party as team leaders
and, last but not least, all together will have an exciting experience
on October 31st.
The pages to be printed in "Giocoland" will be edited as follow-up activities
and will focus more strongly on the reading-writing skills together with
the careful study of the appropriate layout.
