CLASSROOM SETTINGS
I could have done an A.R. about teaching
with no resources and teaching with no equipments, but after all I think
we are enough lucky to have obtained an English Classroom. My children
and I are working hard and playing together to decorate the room: the
students of all FL classes are happy to display their drawings and to
colour together posters and maps when they are early finishers.
They seem to understand and respect the corners addicted to the various
activities. Sometimes the school provides copies of worksheets (only when
the secretary is not too busy). I am very pleased to bring school my belongings
to show the children and my books to read and to lend them, they like
this and always ask for more, they show a daily interest.
This all to enliven and have motivating phisical surroundings:
-decorate the walls with anithing that adds colour and cultural relevance
to the room;
-have children record events on a class calendar (the wheather, holidays,
birthdays, community or school events, ...)
-label objects in English;
-make a notice board available to encourage children to communicate with
me and the other students using the English language;
- announce activities using also written signs;
- play music and children songs from English speaking countries while
they are working;
-...
The whole class necessitates to feel at ease in the classroom environment,
that is why I need to state clearly a classroom organisation of the space,
of the times and of the duties.
My role in organising, monitoring and evaluating collaborative learning
is obviously complex, moreover my first concern is to ensure that the
learners throroughly understand the task requirements before they begin
the activities: routines can help a lot this kind of organisation and
can offer each child an opportunity to be really involved in the life
of the class and to practice effectively the target language.
